Pearl Harbor Remembrance

Veterans Bob Foster, Mike Fix and Vito Pinto speak with students about Pearl Harbor. Eastchester High School welcomed three Vietnam Veterans to speak with students about the significance of Pearl Harbor and share accounts of the local men and women who served during World War II.

Vietnam Veterans Vito Pinto, Mike Fix and Bob Foster showed the students photographs and news clips from December 7, 1941. They learned about the history leading up to the attack and the resilience of the country in the days and months that followed.

National Honor Society Induction

Eastchester National Honor Society InducteesSixty-five Eastchester High School seniors participated in the traditional candle lighting ceremony on Dec. 4, as they joined they were inducted into the Eastchester chapter of The National Honor Society.

Candle lighting ceremony The NHS recognizes outstanding high school students for their academic achievements and service to the community.

Each new member took an oath and pledged to continue their commitment to scholarship, service, leadership and character.

NHS Advisor Julie Meyers welcomed the students and congratulated them for their excellence. The new members met rigorous academic requirements and committed to tutor a minimum of nine hours over the course of the school year.  Tutors are ...

Seaside Retreat

Student working with teacher on Art ProjectWhen you walk down the hallway outside the Pupil Personnel Office at Eastchester Middle School, you are transported to the seaside.

Students in the High School Adaptive Arts class transformed a bulletin board into a beach when they painted sand and calming blue waters. The class completed the scene with many different colored fish, shells, coral and seaweed made from foam: the final touch - sea turtles.

Students in art classSea turtles are Dr. Noreen Urso’s favorite animal. As the sign above the bulletin board states, “Try to be like the turtle, at ease in your own shell.”

Outside of Eastchester

Leigh Dannhauser, speaks with students. Leigh Dannhauser washed her clothing in buckets, raised chickens and walked miles to buy what she needed from a local market.

She embraced this new life as a Peace Corps volunteer and on Dec 3, she shared her mission and experiences with fifth-graders at Anne Hutchinson. Dannauser wanted the students to learn about life outside of Eastchester.

Peace Corp volunteer Leigh Dannhauser, sister-in-law of teacher Dana Dannhauser speaks with students. She worked in tech sales while her mother was sick with cancer, and after her mother passed away, Dannhauser said she realized she didn't like her job.
