Greenvale Lunch and Learn
Greenvale’s school psychologist, Jessica Stern, and third grade special education teacher Lauren Ingram planned several “Lunch and Learn” sessions to give students the opportunity to learn about STEM-based careers.
Sixty students in grades 4 and 5 signed up for sessions with Ms. Jennifer Robinson who is a business analyst. She designs websites, cd covers, and more. She talked about the importance of the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and math for both girls and boys.
Dr. Fabreena Napier, who is a practicing neurologist met with 100 students in grades two and three and another 50 in grades four and five. She spoke about STEM and the daily role math and science play in her work diagnosing nerve diseases. She mentioned the many obstacles she faced in order to become a neurologist and stressed the importance of being a hard worker, believing in oneself and the perseverance needed to meet one’s goals.
Both guests emphasized that women can achieve the same as men.
