The crowd cheered, children played on the basketball court and music filled the Eastchester High School gymnasium, Friday, January 25, in anticipation of the Harlem Wizards taking the court.

For the 12th year, The Eastchester School Foundation sponsored this friendly and fun-filled competition between the Eastchester All Stars and the Wizards.

Administrators, teachers and staff made the plays as the Harlem Wizards performed their tricks – stealing the ball, laying on the court and making jokes!

The event raised more than $15,000 for grants that will support programs throughout the District.

“We are so grateful for the support of the families who came out and the teachers who shared their sense of humor and their Friday evening on behalf of the Foundation.  We are also indebted again to our elected leaders for their continued sponsorship of the evening and the grant program,” Foundation President George Winn.

This year State Senator Shelley Mayer made her debut as the event sponsor and Eastchester Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita returned as the half-time show sponsor. The Foundation also appreciates the support of Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Westchester County Legislator Damon Maher who attended the event.

Eastchester High School junior Nicolette Mancini opened the night with a moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

“We are having a blast,” said Physical Education teacher Shane O’Connor during halftime. “We are playing our best but the Wizards are tough competition. We welcome it for the Foundation.”

Audience members weren’t the only ones who enjoyed themselves. “I like making people smile, making people laugh,” said “Swoop.” The Harlem Wizard has played in Eastchester for the past five years. “It is a highlight for me. The energy here is amazing, the kids are always excited.”

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this sold-out event such a success!
