More than 50 Eastchester High School students became the first inductees into the Eastchester High School Chapter of the Rho Kappa National Honor Society. On May 15, they participated in a candle-lighting ceremony and were recognized for their superior work in Social Studies in and outside of the classroom.
The name of the organization, Rho Kappa, has Semitic origins. Rho is derived from resh, meaning head, and Kappa is derived from kapf, which refers to the palm of the hand. The terms symbolize the organization’s belief that students should not only show an interest in the social studies through academic achievement, but should be active citizens who use their talents to make a difference in the community.
