International Day!With passport in hand, Greenvale third graders took a trip around the world without ever leaving their school.

On May 17, the Greenvale PTA transformed classrooms into different countries, complete with caves and castles that were filled with artifacts about each region.

Teachers and students at International Day!The children visited Kenya, Scotland, Japan, Australia, Mexico, and Egypt where they were greeted by parents dressed in traditional clothing. They discovered more about the culture and geography of each new land. They learned words in Swahili, wore kimonos and discovered the legend of the Loch Ness Monster.

After a discussion, the students completed a craft.

“I love being part of the experience,” said parent Susan Gaines who welcomed students to Kenya. “It gives a sense of what is outside Eastchester.”

Third-grader Natali DeLeon enjoyed making a fan when she visited Japan. “I like learning about different cultures.”

PTA Co-Chairs Loriane and Karin Messina organized the event and many parents volunteered as tour guides and ambassadors.
