Our youngest Jazz Co. dancers from Anne Hutchinson and Greenvale lit up the stage on May 16 performing for their families.
Director Stephanie Leone coordinates the after school program that provides a foundation for dance and high school instructors teach routines with the assistance of supervisors. The dancers learn basic choreography and movement that evolve into the routines executed on stage.
For some children, this is their first experience with dance. “It’s amazing to watch the dancers’ evolution from February through May as well as from fourth grade through high school. The true beauty of the program occurs when the students become the teachers and the high school dancers return to choreograph and teach the middle school numbers,” said Leone.
Many of the dancers continue in Jazz Co. through Eastchester Middle School and Eastchester High School and they describe the experience as belonging to a second family.
On May 21, the EMS Jazz Co. company performed for their classmates during a school assembly and then presented their show to family and friends in the evening.
The performances would not be possible without the support of the Eighth Grade & Boys Supervisor - Stacy Monteiro, Seventh Grade Supervisor - Samantha Kearns, Sixth Grade Supervisor - Mary Kate Martucci, Anne Hutchison and Greenvale Supervisor - Mary Kate Martucci, and Support Staff - Alyssa Massi and Kaitlyn Anderse
