The Entomological Society of America chose Anusha Vaish, a fourth-grader at Anne Hutchinson, to present her poster depicting the decline of insects and its effects at the organization’s annual meeting in St. Louis this November.
Anusha dedicates her time to learning and teaching others about the decreasing insect population and the benefits of urban landscapes to humans and insects alike.
"Insects are not scary, they are just misunderstood,” said Anusha.
During the summer, she discussed her initiative SaveInsects.com and zero plastic zones as part of her campaign called LivingGreenways.com at the New York Hall of Science, Sarah Lawrence College, Savannah Bee Company, Clearwater Festival, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Yonkers Science Barge and Nature Girls. Anusha also gave a radio interview with station WBAI 99.5FM NYC as an environmental activist.
Anusha will be organizing an insect/plastic problem themed table at the Eastchester Green Festival on September 14 from 11am - 2pm at Anne Hutchinson.
