Eastchester High School students gained valuable information and ideas to spur them along to college and their careers.
Representatives from approximately 40 businesses and organizations shared their expertise at the 3rd Annual Careers in Business Night. The participants work at many prestigious organizations, including PepsiCo, Bayer, Unilever, Conair, Guardian Life Insurance, Regeneron, Morgan Stanley, as well as government, law and privately owned businesses.
“The Careers in Business Night is an opportunity for EHS students to speak with professionals that have been successful working for different companies and in a variety of industries. The Business Department is proud to be able to offer students this informative and relevant event. It is one of the many ways in which we prepare our business students for college and career readiness,” said Business Education teacher Lauren Stipo.
On November 14, students heard from a panel of experts who answered their questions about starting in business. The panelists stressed both technical abilities and “soft skills” that will allow the students to communicate and work with teams.
“Stick with your passion, get as much experience as possible,” said Dr. Phyllis Fein, a marketing entrepreneur.
The business leaders also encouraged the students to embrace challenges and learn from failure.
Students then met one-on-one with the industry leaders where they asked individual questions and learned more about the education that is necessary to pursue their interests.
Freshman Natalie Kane and her friend Hannah Pernerstorfer said it is never too early to start the process. “There is a variety of people here and if you start early, you can gain more knowledge.”
