Congratulations to several Eastchester Middle School students who earned awards in Le Grands Concours, a national event sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).
Nearly 70,000 students in all 50 states participated in the 85th annual event where they were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension skills.
The following students in Mary Leptak’s classes were recognized:
Seventh graders: Ava Badlyans (Honorable Mention), Max Jeanseaume (Bronze Medal/division 01B), Evan McElfresh (Gold/01B), Lucas Pequegnot (Honorable Mention/01B), and Soyo Tanida (Honorable Mention)
Eighth graders: Mohammad Balouji (Bronze Medal), Lola Erickson (Silver), Mariam Khan (Honorable Mention), and Andrea Klein (Silver Medal).
Division B refers to a student with a French-speaking parent at home or some similar outside knowledge of /familiarity with the language
"I am fortunate to work with Eastchester students. They are dedicated and truly love learning about language and culture,” commented Ms. Leptak. “There were students who attended extensive review sessions after school, often until 3:30. Many are in advanced honors and Regents classes and still dedicated so much time to this. They should be very proud of their accomplishment."
AATF President Anne Jensen congratulated the students and commended their parents and instructors for supporting the pursuit of the French language.
